Boot Fitting FAQ

How to Know If Your Ski Boots Fit Properly
Are my ski boots fitting properly? We get that question pretty much every day at Jackson’s Base Camp. If you’re asking that question and don’t have a custom footbed, they more than likely don’t. A properly made foot bed is the foundation of a great ski boot fit.  Some signs a ski boot is not fitting properly could be cold feet, shin bang, sore arches “hot spots” on the fore foot or ankle, blisters, large gaps around the cuff, maxed out bucks and the most importantly your ski boot does not perform how you want it to at high speed or challenging conditions.
Why Ski Boot Fit Affects Performance and Safety
A custom ski boot fit will keep your feet warm and comfortable along with giving you the performance you need to turn the ski the way you want. If you think turn left and the ski is slow to respond that is the exact moment your ski boot is letting you down on the performance and safety side of things! Stop into Jackson’s Base Camp we’ll get you up onto the boot bench and bring performance and safety into your skiing with a custom fitting ski boot.
What to Expect During a Custom Boot Fitting
First of all, plan for at least 90 minuets and wear comfortable clothing that will allow your fitter to see your knee cap and not up your skirt. We’ll start with spending a minute or few talking with you about your skiing and what your expectations are from your custom ski boot fitting. We’ll measure your foot for width, length and volume spots, have a look at a couple bio mechanical conditions that happen when you flex a custom ski boot. After we have a good idea of the size, shape and flex were looking for, we’ll bring out two or three pairs we feel will work well for you. You’ll try them on spend some time in each ski boot during this time we’ll go over the features of each ski boot so you can decide what one will work best for you. You’ll get a custom foot bed made along with shell modifications and stance alignment correction if needed. Go ski have some fun bring the boot back in for little tweaks if needed at no charge. The end product will be a warm comfortable ski boot that will ski great!
The Best Custom Ski Boots for Wide Feet in 2025
What is the best custom ski boot for wide feet in 2025? It you’re asking this question there is great news!  In the last few years almost all the major ski boot manufactures have brought a wide model into their line. Some have even begun to widen some of their backcountry models as well. At Jacksons Base Camp we carry Atomic Hawk, Head Edge and the Tecnica Mack One HV and Cochise HV. Keep in mind as part of the custom fitting process ski boots can be heated and shaped to accommodate even a wider foot.
